About Us
"We know we are on the right path. Our journey is not finished, but we have come a long way."
Our vision is to create a successful residential community that will serve as a model to solve the intellectual and developmental housing shortage across America.
Our Story
When Osprey Village Inc. formed in 2008, the founders aimed to create safe neighborhoods for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Initially focused on their own adult children, they soon realized the immense need in the Lowcountry. As word spread, inquiries poured in from across the country, transforming their vision from a few homes to full neighborhoods.
In its early stages, Osprey Village identified a critical housing need for people with intellectual disabilities. After researching, they uncovered a nationwide shortage. To address this shortage, they opened thrift stores in 2011 and 2017, which continues to fund the project and provide work opportunities. A land donation in Hardeeville, SC, was crucial for building the community.
In 2016, Osprey Village partnered with the State of South Carolina to provide healthcare services in the Lowcountry. They also collaborated with architects and the City of Hardeeville to design a diverse neighborhood for individuals with IDD. As construction begins, they continue to work with local leaders, businesses, and families to ensure a comprehensive community model, including homeownership, rentals, commercial developments, and an amenities center.
